Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Toby Alderweireld’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Belgian international has found himself on the bench for Tottenham’s last three Premier League matches, including last night’s 3-1 defeat against Liverpool where the defence were at fault for all three of the goals conceded (transfermarkt).

Alderweireld also had a difficult match in his last outing when he struggled to cope at times with the physicality of Wycombe forward Uche Ikpeazu.

The 31-year-old was linked with a move back to his homeland earlier this week when Voetbal24 claimed that Club Brugge were interested in making a move for the former Ajax man in the summer.

Romano has told the Chris Cowlin YouTube channel that Alderweireld, much like Davinson Sanchez wants to fight for his place in the Tottenham team and prove his worth to Jose Mourinho.

Alderweireld is currently under contract in North London until 2023.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Is Panty Jose punishing Toby for being bullied by the gorilla from Wycombe. Everybody saw the thuggery from a two-bob player. What was the penguin doing. When Harry uses strength and technique the whistle goes. Against the scouse, poor Joe was exposed to the 3-gang fwds that have been pussies lately, viz against manure. Suddenly they are against a new defence that are not likely to kick them. Soon as Eric puts one in…free kick. If Sèrge goes near anyone…penalty.
How did Daniel get mugged by that midget?
He was on the dole, still gave him a bag of gold contract.
He would have managed against argonauts from H-Wyc.
