Video: Former Man City defender admits he was devastated Spurs move collapsed

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has revealed that he came close to joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The 31-year-old decided retired from professional football in July of last year while at Aston Villa due to ongoing injury problems with his knee.

Richards said during an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live that while he was still at City, he had agreed to move to Spurs which subsequently failed to materialise.

The right-back claimed that his agent reassured him that the move to North London was done and he had nothing to worry about; only for his agent to fail to return his multiple telephone calls to find out what was happening.

Richards admitted that he was devastated that the move failed to happen.

In a turn of events, the business partner of the player’s agent instead offered him to move to Serie A side Fiorentina which he accepted having seen his switch to North London no longer being an option.
