Video: Former midfielder wishes he did not move to Spurs when he did

Adel Taarabt has revealed that he was set to join Arsenal before he ended up moving to North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder joined Tottenham as a 17-year-old in 2007 from French outfit Lens on a five-year contract (Eurosport).

Now 33 and playing his football for Portuguese giants Benfica, Taarabt has spoken about his career where he admitted as a teenager he could have moved to any top side in European football, but it was Damien Comolli who persuaded him to make the switch to White Hart Lane.

He claims that Comolli convinced him of the project which was taking place at Tottenham under Martin Jol where young players including Gareth Bale and Kyle Walker were to be given the opportunity to play.

While revealing that he did not regret moving to Tottenham, the Moroccan international did admit that he wished he remained in France for a further season after just starting to taste first-team football in Ligue 1 while suggesting that following his move to Spurs, they did not help him to further develop his game.
