Video: Glenn Hoddle explains why Harry Kane won’t have the same success this season

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has claimed that the players around Harry Kane need to step up to the plate and show more consistency.

Hoddle believes that Kane will not be able to replicate the personal success he achieved at club level last season and try to hold the team together.

The former midfielder has singled out the likes of Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn and Dele Alli to show improvement if the club are able to achieve anything this season.

The 28-year-old completed the double at the end of the last campaign having scooped both the Premier League top goalscorer and top assist provider (The Sun), despite Tottenham’s disappointing outing which saw them finish seventh in the table and once again fail to end their long wait for a piece of competitive silverware.

Hoddle believes that Tottenham’s pattern of play needs improvement after highlighting that midfield three are playing the ball too slowly and need to look to act quicker when in possession.

With Heung-min Son out of the team through injury, Kane’s ability to drop deep and look to play the South Korean in behind the defence is a facet of his game that he has struggled to replicate with other team mates.

Hoddle is right to single out the likes of Bergwijn and Dele to show a marked improvement, we cannot simply reply on Kane and Son to carry us through matches.
