Video: Graham Roberts claims one player is mostly at fault for late goals conceded by Spurs

Graham Roberts believes that Tottenham Hotspur’s tendency to give away free-kicks in dangerous areas has led to them dropping points this season.

The former defender claimed that during the Premier League match with West Ham United earlier this season he predicted that David Moyes’ side would draw the match despite Spurs being 3-1 up at the time.

The 61-year-old believes that conceding free-kicks in and around Spurs’ own area leads to goals and penalties.

Roberts claims that Moyes told Robert Snodgrass to stand in front of Serge Aurier to earn a free-kick from the Ivorian.

Manuel Lanzini’s injury time equaliser came after a Snodgrass free-kick was cleared into the path of the Argentine who fired the ball into the top corner from 25-yards out.

Spurs were robbed of all three points against Newcastle United in September when Andy Carroll headed a cross against Eric Dier’s arm from close range with VAR controversially deciding to award an injury-time penalty.

Roberts questioned whether the backroom staff at Spurs have since instructed Aurier not to make tackles in such areas given the fact he also conceded a costly penalty in the home defeat to Leicester City.

The UEFA Cup winner suggested that as much as 90 per cent of the goals Spurs have conceded in the last few minutes of matches have come from the right back’s mistakes.
