Video: Harry Kane finally achieves feat he didn’t manage in his entire Spurs career

Harry Kane has finally scored directly from a free-kick without the aid of a helpful deflection, after years of Tottenham fans waiting patiently for him to find the back of the net from a dead ball.

Kane ironically scored one of his first free-kicks for Tottenham back in 2014, when his effort deflected heavily off the Aston Villa wall to wrongfoot the keeper and give Spurs a late victory.

However, the England captain struggled from dead balls for the decade that followed, often seeing his efforts slam into the wall or sail harmlessly over the bar. Fans will remember Kane scoring a fantastic effort against Brentford, but even that required the ball to be touched on first.

In fact, most Spurs fans wanted the club’s record goalscorer to be taken off set-pieces due to his poor record, especially compared to some of the other specialists in the starting XI.
