Harry Kane has admitted that he didn’t need a second invitation to take the goalkeeping gloves after Hugo Lloris was sent off in Tottenham’s 5-1 win over Asteras Tripolis in 2014.
Kane may have made his Tottenham debut in 2011 but it was 2014/15 that served as his breakthrough season as he forced himself into Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice eleven, owing to the brilliant form he showed in the Europa Leauge.
After scoring his first hat-trick for Spurs against the Greek side, he decided to don the gloves when Lloris received a late red card.
However, the striker endured a horrible moment as he allowed a free-kick to slip right through his hands soon after going in goal.
The goal did not matter too much in the grand scheme of things since the North Londoners were already 5-0 up but Kane has admitted that he was devastated to let the shot in as he had always fancied himself as a good goalkeeper.
Watch Kane describe what went through his head that night to former Spurs teammate Andros Townsend for ITV:
