Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Graham Roberts has claimed that a more attacking mindset from Harry Winks could see the midfielder once again become a regular in the team.

Winks has struggled for consistent game time in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho this season, including being left out of the squad in the most recent top flight match at Sheffield United (transfermarkt).

Roberts, who admitted that he is a big admirer of the 24-year-old and wants to see him find his way back into the starting eleven by taking a more forward-thinking approach rather than looking to play the safer option with his distribution.

Despite Winks having recently been linked with a move away from North London (Daily Mail), the 61-year-old believes that the club would not entertain the prospect of the England international leaving given his age and ties to the club.

Roberts insists that it is now down to Winks to look to improve his game highlighted the performance of Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara against Aston Villa of how a defensive midfielder should operate.
