Video: Heung-min Son’s free-kick sends South Korea to Asian Cup semifinals

Son Heung-min was the hero for South Korea on Friday as he converted from a free-kick in extra-time to send his side to the semifinals of the Asian Cup.

For large parts of the encounter, it looked like it was the Aussies who were going to progress to the next round after Craig Goodwin gave them the lead towards the end of the first half.

That lead stood until stoppage time when stoppage time before Son decided to take matters into his own hands.

The 31-year-old made a fantastic run before being brought down in the box, with Wolves striker Hwang Hee-Chan stepping up to convert the penalty to send the game into extra-time.

The Tottenham man once again proved the difference-maker as curled a free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the box on 104 minutes to send Jurgen Klinsmann’s side into the final four of the competition, setting up a semifinal clash with Jordan on Tuesday.

Although Matt Ryan in the Australian goal did not cover himself in glory, Son once again shows why he has to be on free-kick duty at Tottenham. The Spurs captain and his international teammates now have a huge opportunity to go all the way, especially with a relatively easy semifinal draw.
