Video: “I ate him for lunch” – Former Man City explains his Gareth Bale mistake

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards has recalled his experiences of facing Gareth Bale during his playing career.

Richards claimed that the first time he came up against Bale was when the Welshman was playing for Southampton and stated that he ‘ate him for lunch’.

The former Manchester City defender went on to explain a further encounter he had with Bale following his move to Tottenham Hotspur a few seasons later which was the polar opposite of their first fixture.

Richards admitted that he made a massive mistake to underestimate the future threat of Bale by conceding that the Spurs man destroyed him during a fixture at White Hart Lane in which he credited Joe Hart for keeping the North Londoners at bay in a 1-1 draw.

Bale completed his return to Tottenham last week with Richards believing that if the club can get even seventy per cent of what he used to bring to the Premier League, they will be a real threat.
