Video: ‘I don’t quite get it’ – Ex-Spurs man criticises Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signing

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker, Darren Bent, has criticised his old club for the potential arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton this summer.

It has been reported that Spurs are close to reaching an agreement with the Saints for the midfield enforcer, although the fee is up for discussion.

Sky Sports originally reported that Hojbjerg would join the North London outfit for just £15m, as the former Southampton captain has just one year left on his contract.

However, The Sun reported today that Spurs would actually have to pay £20m plus add-ons to secure the signing.

Darren Bent claimed that Hojbjerg would not ‘change lives’ or ‘take Tottenham to the next level’ during an interview with TalkSPORT 2.

The former Spurs man also alleged that Tottenham never replaced Mousa Dembele and that, although fans would like Hojbjerg because he works hard, it is not a signing that will excite them.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This is a load of rubbish from Bent. Hojbjerg was the best ball winner in the midfield third last season in the Premier League. Spurs have been without that kind of player since Eric Dier went off the boil and Victor Wanyama picked up his injuries. Hojbjerg could be the perfect unsung hero to slot in and allow the likes of Lo Celso, Ndombele, and Dele really shine.
