Jose Mourinho handed recent summer signing Joe Hart his competitive debut in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 Europa League victory against KF Shkendija last night.
Hart, who made the move to North London following the expiration of his contract at Burnley has found himself having unseated Paulo Gazzaniga as the club’s second-choice goalkeeper.
The former England number one had little to do in the first half after Erik Lamela put the visitors ahead but was unable to keep a clean sheet when Valjmir Nafiu picked the ball up from distance and unleashed a powerful shot which left Hart helpless
When asked about making his first appearance for his new club, Hart expressed his pride at pulling on the famous Spurs shirt and reiterated his decision to make the move given Mourinho’s trust in him to play in an important knockout tie.
Hart pulled no punches in his assessment of Tottenham’s performance when he labelled it as poor and acknowledged the importance of being able to bring on the likes of Harry Kane to help rescue the result with the score level at 1-1.
“I’m really proud to wear the shirt.”
