Video: “If Harry Kane don’t turn up, Tottenham ain’t winning no game” claims Paul Merson

Paul Merson has stood by his comments suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are a one-man team due to Harry Kane’s presence within the side.

The former Arsenal midfielder made the claim earlier this week in his column for the Sky Sports website in which he suggested Spurs are only favourites to finish in the top four if Kane remains in the team.

Merson was quizzed about his opinion by Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday host Geoff Stelling and when challenged by ex-Crystal Palace forward, Clinton Morrison, he went as far as stating that Tottenham will not win any game if Kane fails to perform.

He said: “If Harry Kane don’t turn up, Tottenham ain’t winning no game, no game. He turns up against Man City, nine out of ten they win the game.

“He turns up against West Ham they win the game, he turns up Newcastle and they win the game but he doesn’t turn up at Burnley. What happens? they lose.”

It is a staggering claim by Merson to suggest that Spurs will not win a match if Kane does not perform to his usual high standards and is disrespectful towards the likes of Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.

It sounds almost as if Merson is fearful of Spurs pipping Arsenal to the final Champions League place and instead wants to create as much noise as possible.
