It seems strange that ten years ago, Jamie O’Hara and Gareth Bale were not only in the same Tottenham team but sat next to each other on the bench, such is the contrast in their footballing careers.
However, O’Hara has been talking to TalkSPORT this week about his time at Spurs and even claims that he may have pushed Bale on the path to his success.
O’Hara says that Luka Modric was the starting left midfielder at the time, which prompted the Englishman to ask for a spell out on loan.
However, the day he signed for Portsmouth, Modric picked up a nasty injury, and O’Hara did not have a recall clause in the contract.
Redknapp was then apparently given no choice but to play Gareth Bale, then a left-back, in the left-wing position. And the rest, they say, is history.
? “I put him on his way!”
? “I went on loan to Pompey. Modric broke his leg, I didn’t have a recall.”
? “Redknapp had no choice but to play Bale on the wing. He was unbelievable.”
