Tottenham Hotspur certainly did not have it all their own way when the Premier League returned following the summer break yesterday evening.

Spurs were on course for a surprise defeat at home to newly promoted Aston Villa before a spirited second half performance saw them come from behind to win the game 3-1.

Key to the victory was the introduction of Christian Eriksen on 64 minutes which helped to turn the tide of the game.

Despite having previously revealed that he wanted to leave the club this summer (Ekstra Bladet), Pochettino claimed that he left the Dane out of the side due to his fitness following a summer operation (Independent).

After the match, former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp praised the impact of the 27-year-old and has urged the club to try and keep him in North London.

Eriksen is now within the last twelve months of his contract and has previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid (Standard).
