Video: Japhet Tanganga opens up on sleepless nights ahead of Spurs debut

Japhet Tanganga has opened up on the sleepless nights he endured in the few days leading up to his senior Tottenham debut against Liverpool back in January.

The youngster revealed that Jose Mourinho hinted to him on the Tuesday that he may be starting the game causing him to be a nervous wreck for rest of the week.

The 21-year-old went on to have an impressive debut and coped admirably with the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, although Spurs ended up on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.

Tanganga has gone from strength to strength since that match, featuring regularly in the matchday squad until the league was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Watch the defender recall the memories of his first start in an interview with SPORF:

In fairness to Tanganga, none of his nervousness actually came across during his debut. He looked incredibly calm and composed for someone who was making his first senior start and he coped as well against Liverpool’s forward players as anyone could.
