Japhet Tanganga has been regularly named as an unused substitute by Jose Mourinho of late, but the 20-year-old centre-back made his Premier League debut today.
Tangaga was named in the back line against Liverpool, acting as a right centre-back just behind the wing-back of Serge Aurier.
Just two minutes into his debut, Tanganga blocked a shot on the line, before keeping Mane quiet for the vast majority of the game and then covering at left-back.
Tanganga was arguably the silver lining in an otherwise disappointing defeat. Here’s what he had to say on the match:
“I really thought we could have nicked something at the end. Maybe a draw. Maybe even a win.”
