Video: Jenas suggests it is a ‘no brainer’ for Man City to snap up Spurs player

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has urged Manchester City to snap up Jan Vertonghen when his contract with Spurs runs out.

Vertonghen will become a free agent at the end of the season and reports indicate that the centre-half is attracting interest from clubs in La Liga as well as Serie A (Calcio Mercato).

However, Jenas believes Pep Guardiola’s side should swoop for the Belgian international by claiming that he would be a perfect back up for Aymeric Laporte.

The pundit insisted that the deal would be a ‘no brainer’ for the former Premier League champions, especially since they would be able to land him with no transfer fee involved.

Vertonghen made his first appearance since the Premier League resumed when he came on as a late substitution in the 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United on Thursday.

I actually believe Vertonghen could be a decent squad player for City and will suit the way they play in possession. The only problem will be that his lack of pace running back will not be ideal in Pep’s high line.

As a Spurs fan, I would obviously prefer Jan to join a club in Italy or Spain as it would be extremely weird to watch him turn out in the colours for another Premier League side.
