Video: Kane claims he got the ball in Robertson challenge against Liverpool

Harry Kane has defended himself following his challenge on Andy Robertson during the 2-2 draw against Liverpool earlier this evening.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward went in for a full-blooded sliding challenge on Andy Robertson moments after he had given his side the lead and received a yellow card from referee Paul Tierney.

Robertson was sent off in the second half for a reckless kick on Emerson Royal, a decision given after Tierney reviewed the decision on the pitch-side monitor, having initially shown the Liverpool full-back a yellow card.

Kane was quizzed after the final whistle by Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves on whether he can consider himself lucky to have stayed on the pitch after the challenge in the first half.

The 28-year-old admitted that there is always going to be strong tackles in high-pressure games of this nature and after trying to tell Shreeves there was nothing more to add after a yellow was awarded, the reporter continued to press Kane for further detail.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time in which Sky have pressed Kane for his opinion, having also put him on the spot after a North London derby when they forced him to re-watch an alleged dive in a 2-2 draw back in 2019 (The Sun).

If they wish to delve into this level of transparent opinion of players, they need to roll out out to the rest of the Premier League. The likes of Mo Salah are never pulled up in front of the camera every time he is involved in a diving or handball incident.
