Video: ‘Losing games is fine’ – Former Spurs star praises Nuno for tactical changes

Jermaine Jenas has said that Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa on Sunday was a ‘massive’ result for the North London club on the back of their recent struggles.

Spurs went into the game against Villa on the back of three straight defeats in the Premier League, where they conceded nine goals.

The pressure was building on Nuno Espirito Santo, with some reports even claiming that the Portuguese coach for fighting to save his job.

Jenas believes that the Spurs boss got his selection and tactics wrong in the North London derby but praised him for putting things right against Villa.

Watch what Jenas and Shearer said on BBC Match of the Day about Tottenham’s 2-1 win:

The former Spurs midfielder also lavished praise on Son Heung-min, who set up both of Tottenham’s goals on Sunday.

Jeans claimed that the South Korean looked to be back to his best after his below-par showing at the Emirates and that his performance galvanised the rest of the Spurs side.

He added (Match of the Day 2 03/10/21 from 22:30 onwards): “He’s (Son) back to his best. I was critical of him last week in the North London derby along with a whole host of other players in the starting eleven.

“But when he plays like that, he’s unstoppable, he really is. The things he does down that left-hand side for Tottenham, he’s a goal threat, he creates things. And it’s almost like when he’s on it, the rest react.”

Nuno and the players desperately needed that performance and result. Things could have got quite ugly had we fallen to another defeat against Villa. It is worth remembering that it was a turnaround against Villa that saved Pochettino from the sack and ushered in a fantastic era for Spurs. Hopefully, the same turns out to be true with Nuno as well.
