Video: Malinonskyi scores for Atalanta amidst Spurs links, fans beg him to stay

Tottenham target Ruslan Malinonskyi found the back of the net for Atalanta in their 1-1 draw against AC Milan on Sunday, with the home fans chanting for him to remain at the club.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Malinovskyi over the past couple of weeks, with TuttoMercatoWeb reporting last Friday that the 29-year-old is destined to leave Bergamo and the North London club could soon begin negotiations for the player.

In his pre-match press conference over the weekend, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini seemingly hinted the Ukrainian will depart Bergamo by revealing that the club are on the lookout for a suitable replacement for the attacking midfielder (The Evening Standard).

However, Gasperini decided to hand Malinovskyi a start against Milan and the midfielder repaid his manager’s faith by opening the scoring with a strike from the edge of the box just before the half-hour mark.

According to Football Italia, when Malinovski was replaced by Ademola Lookman in the 73rd minute, the Spurs target received a standing ovation at the Gewiss Stadium, with Atalanta fans chanting “stay in Bergamo”.

After the game, Malinovksyi took to social media to post a message that read: “God’s plan”.

Spurs Web Opinion

Malinovckyi’s tweet after the game certainly appears to be a big indication that this was his last game in an Atalanta shirt. At this point, Tottenham appears to be the Ukrainian’s most likely destination. However, things could change, with reports indicating that Forest and Marseille remain keen on the midfielder (Football Italia).
