Video: Marcus Edwards says he ‘couldn’t be happier’ after beating Spurs

Marcus Edwards has insisted that Sporting were fully deserved their win against his former club Tottenham Hotspur.

Edwards was earmarked as a danger man ahead of the game on the back of his impressive start to the season, with Eric Dier admitting in his pre-match press conference that Spurs need to be wary of the winger (Football.London).

The 23-year-old certainly proved a handful for the Tottenham defence and almost scored a brilliant goal towards the end of the first-half.

He went past several players, played a one-two with Francisco Trincao, before poking the ball towards the net, only for Hugo Lloris to produce fantastic reaction save to deny him from close range.

Although was not able to get on the scoresheet yesterday evening, Edwards admitted his delight at winning the game but admitted that it was a ‘strange feeling’ to go up against a club where he spent so many years having come through the academy ranks.

While the World Cup in November might come too early for Edwards, there is no doubt that he will be knocking on the door of the England squad over the coming years if he keeps playing the way he is.

On the evidence of his showing yesterday, Tottenham’s inability to hold on to the winger, certainly seems like a massive blunder.
