Video: Mourinho on Bale’s cameo and whether he could play on Thursday

Jose Mourino has shared his opinion on Gareth Bale’s performance against Manchester City.

The Spurs boss hit out at the Welshman prior to the trip to the Etihad when he described the player’s recent Instagram post as “totally wrong” and a “contradiction with reality”.

Bale posted a picture of himself in Spurs training on Tuesday alongside the caption: “Good session today”.

The Real Madrid loanee was missing from the squad for Wednesday’s 5-4 FA Cup fifth-round loss at Everton, with Mourinho insisting that he had asked not be involved but said he was not injured (talkSPORT).

The 31-year-old returned to the squad for the trip to the Premier League leaders and came off the bench with 18 minutes remaining with his side already 3-0 down (transfermarkt).

Bale showed glimpses of his former brilliance when he produced a brilliant piece of footwork to beat three City defenders before unleashing a left-footed shot which was beaten away by Ederson.

Mourinho described Bale’s performance as “ok” and insisted that he had no injury issues after the game before suggesting that he could be involved in Thursday’s Europa League clash with Wolfsberger.

He told Football.London: “I think he was ok. Of course one training session with the team no more. Of course not ready for much more than this. Positive feelings. He had a good action, could score a goal. No problems after the match. Let’s see if he can play Thursday or if not Thursday then next weekend. Players of good quality when fit can add something to the team, so if he’s fit and available welcome.”
