Video: Mourinho opens up on whether Bale can stay at Spurs beyond this season

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is hopeful Gareth Bale can extend his stay at Tottenham beyond the end of the current season.

Reports indicated that Spurs have the option of extending the Welshman’s loan deal by one more year.

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett recently admitted that the 31-year-old would prefer not to return to the Spanish capital at the end of the season (BBC Sport).

The winger’s problems with Zinedine Zidane are well documented, with the Real Madrid boss admitting that he did not speak to Bale before he left for London (Daily Mail).

Mourinho has now said that he would like to see Bale stay on for next season as all parties seem happy with the arrangement.

Here’s what the Spurs boss said about the Real Madrid man’s loan move in an interview with Sky Sports (23/09/20 – Sky Sports News at 14:00).

Given that Real Madrid seem happy to get rid of Bale and that he seemingly has no intention of returning, it looks highly likely that his loan deal will be extended by another year. However, for Spurs to take up that option, he will have to prove his fitness by playing at least 25 to 30 games this season.
