Video: Garry Neville admits he has been ‘annoyed’ by Gareth Bale this season

Gary Neville has admitted that he has been annoyed by Gareth Bale’s attitude so far this season as the Welshman has appeared content to sit on the Tottenham bench.

Bale was handed just his third Premier League start of the season by Jose Mourinho against Burnley on Sunday and the winger certainly showed his quality, scoring twice and setting up Harry Kane’s goal.

The on-loan Real Madrid star has shown signs over the last few weeks that he is coming back to his best and Neville insisted that it was about time that the returning Spurs man showed a desire to perform on the pitch.

The former Manchester United defender was critical of Bale for not showing desperation to be involved over the last few months but admitted that the experienced wide man can be a key player for Spurs now that he looks back to his best.

While one can understand where Neville is coming from in his criticism of Bale, the reality is that it is very difficult for those on the outside to know that what really went on with respect to the Welshman’s fitness.

Perhaps he was not confident enough in his own body to pull off the sprints that he did against Burnley yesterday. The important thing is that the 31-year-old now appears to have regaining sharpness and could have an important part to play over the next few months.
