Video: ‘Not a centre half’ – Ex-West Ham player raises doubts over Spurs defender

Trevor Sinclair has suggested that Eric Dier does not have the natural attributes to be a top-class centre-back.

Dier has been one of the few Tottenham players who has been consistent this season and the 28-year-old even previously earned praise from Antonio Conte, with the Spurs boss even insisting that he could be one of the best centre-backs in the world (Daily Mail).

Arguably, the England international was the only player in the Spurs squad apart from Oliver Skipp who did well during Nuno Espirito Santo’s ill-fated four-month spell in North London at the start of the season.

However, Sinclair has said that the former Sporting Lisbon man does not have the attributes to be a central defender.

When talkSPORT presenters Sam Matterface and Alex Crook pointed out to the former West Ham United midfielder that Dier wanted to switch to centre-half, the pundit insisted that he is not a natural fit for the role.

Football punditry is full of lazy analysis of this kind, which is not something that one sees to the same level in other sports.

To espouse this take confidently without knowing that Dier started his career as a centre-half and was only converted into a midfielder by Pochettino, tells you all that you need to know about how seriously the likes of Sinclair take their jobs.
