Tottenham need to improve the quality of their squad

Despite the poor end that Spurs had to the 2023-24 campaign, O’Hara insisted that he is excited about what next season has in store for the club and revealed that he has been impressed with Postecoglou’s mentality.

However, the former Tottenham midfielder made it clear that the onus is now on the Tottenham ownership to upgrade on many of the squad players currently at Hotspur Way.

He called on the Lilywhites to sign players who are proven in the Premier League, naming Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as the two players that they need to swoop for to improve the Tottenham first-team squad and look to win silverware next season.

O’Hara calls for Spurs to sign Gallagher and Eze

O’Hara told Sky Sports News about Tottenham’s summer transfer window and their prospects for the campaign ahead.

He said: “Well look, I think we have to try and win a trophy. Ange has come in and if you said at the start of the season after you had lost Harry Kane that you would finish fifth, I’d have snapped your hand off for that.

“The football we have played is exciting and everyone loved it. We dropped off and killed ourselves for a month where we didn’t win any games and put the back four out of the question for us.

“I think next season, I’m excited for Spurs. Daniel Levy has got to sign some decent players, we know that. The squad players aren’t good enough and you need to keep trying to shift them aside and I think Ange is trying to do that. We have got some exciting young players coming through but if we can also add some top players

“I think we should try and get Eze, try and get Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, players who are doing it in the Premier League and I think if you add them to the squad then I think top four and try to win a trophy.

“I’m excited with Ange, I like him. I like his mentality, the whole situation with the Manchester City thing and Arsenal he was not having it all and was not happy about it. As a manager, you have to be like that.

“I like the way he was as a gaffer last season. I really liked his interviews, he is honest but you could see the players were like ‘we have got to play for this guy, we have got to work hard for him’ so let’s see what happens but Levy has got to put his hand in his pocket.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This summer is the perfect opportunity for Tottenham to loosen their purse strings and show that they mean business, given that the club are in a very comfortable position with respect to PSR compared to many of their Premier League rivals.

Eze and Gallagher have both proven they can cut it in the English top flight and would represent less of a gamble than hoping a player from the continent can adapt to the physical nature of Premier League football.
