Video: On-loan Spurs player picks up two assists in second appearance for club

Sergio Reguilon showcased his quality to Diego Simeone by picking up two assists in Atletico Madrid’s 4-2 friendly win over Ponferrada on Wednesday.

After going under the knife for his groin injury in the summer, Reguilon has been sidelined for most of the campaign so far.

In fact, the Spaniard made just one appearance for Atletico Madrid in the first part of the 2022-23 season, coming on as a second-half substitute in the game against Mallorca last month.

The 26-year-old certainly made an impression in the Colchoneros preseason friendly against second-tier outfit Ponferrada.

Simeone’s men found themselves 2-0 down with less than 15 minutes to play on Wednesday but it was Reguilon who kickstarted a memorable comeback for the La Liga giants.

The on-loan Tottenham man’s free-kick in the 76th was headed into the back of the net by Reinildo Mandava before the left-back’s cross found Alberto Moreno in the box four minutes later, with the 20-year-old taking a touch before lashing the ball home.

Carlos Martin added a quickfire brace with goals in 83rd and 86th minute to help Atletico emerge 4-2 winners.

Reguilon’s crossing ability was never really in doubt as the 26-year-old showcased his ability to deliver impeccably off his left foot on many occasions at Spurs.

Hopefully, the 26-year-old wins Simeone over in the coming weeks and gets plenty of opportunities in the second half of the campaign.
