Video: On-loan Spurs player receives standing ovation for star performance

Giovani Lo Celso received a standing ovation from the Villarreal faithful after his performance against Valencia on Tuesday.

Lo Celso has been one of Villarreal’s best players since joining the club on loan in January and the Argentine has produced several top-quality displays, not least in the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

The Yellow Submarine have reportedly opened talks with Spurs over a permanent deal for the 26-year-old, who is thought to be valued at around £30m by the North Londoners (Football Insider).

Lo Celso started for Villarreal on Tuesday and completed 71 minutes before being replaced by Moi Gomez as Unai Emery’s side emerged 2-0 winners.

Despite not getting a goal or an assist, the on-loan Tottenham man received a standing ovation from the home fans at El Madrigal while coming off.

According to TBR Football, the Villarreal fans also chanted Lo Celso’s name throughout the game to express their appreciation of the midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears as if Lo Celso’s game is much more suited to La Liga than it is to the Premier League. The 26-year-old seems to be producing the type of performances that he did during his time at Betis. If he maintains the same standard until the end of the season, Spurs might demand upwards of £35m for him in the summer.
