Video: Paul Merson hints Wolves should go after out-of-favour Spurs man

Paul Merson has hinted that Wolves should pursue Dele Alli in the January transfer window, insisting the Tottenham man is exactly the kind of player Bruno Lage’s side need.

Alli is yet to start a Premier League game for Tottenham since Antonio Conte arrived at the club.

The 25-year-old was handed a start in the Europa Conference League clash against NS Mura two weeks ago and he failed to impose himself on the match before being substituted.

Eurosport reported last week that the former MK Dons man has not given up on his Tottenham career and hopes to resurrect his form under Conte.

However, it remains to be seen whether he will be handed the opportunities to do so ahead of the January transfer window.

Merson has now raved about the Tottenham midfielder’s ability to arrive late into the box and score goals, insisting that Wolves lack a player of his profile in the middle of the park.

I would be really surprised if all three of Ndombele, Dele and Lo Celso stay at Spurs beyond the January transfer window.

Even if Conte switches from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2 (which he has shown no indication of doing), that would still not leave space for all three players in the squad.

I would expect one if not two of the three to leave in January and so Alli could well be sacrificed.
