Paul Merson has claimed that Arsenal’s win over Chelsea would have had come as a major blow to Tottenham, who would have been watching the game and expecting the Gunners to drop points.
Arsenal emerged 4-2 winners from Stamford Bridge to draw level on points with Spurs in fourth place, with the Lilywhites now ahead of their North London rivals only on goal difference.
It was the latest twist in the race for fourth spot after Mikel Arteta’s men had lost three games in a row heading into the London derby.
Merson believes that Arsenal’s win would have had a psychological impact on everyone associated with Spurs, who would have expected the Gunners to drop points.
