Video: Pierluigi Gollini makes goalkeeping howler after leaving Spurs

Pierluigi Gollini made a howler on Thursday as he gifted a goal to Istanbul Basaksehir in Fiorentina’s 3-0 defeat to the Turkish side in their Europa Conference League clash.

Gollini did not make a single Premier League appearance for Tottenham during his season-long loan spell at the club last season, with all 10 of his games coming in the Europa Conference League and domestic club competitions (Transfermarkt).

Spurs decided not to take up the option to sign the 27-year-old permanently, with the goalkeeper returning to his parent club Atalanta at the end of last season before completing a loan move to Fiorentina in the summer.

The Italy international has made three Serie A appearances for the club this season but his first European outing for the Viola on Thursday was one he will want to forget.

Gollini gifted Istanbul a goal by inexplicably deciding to juggle the ball at the edge of his box, thus allowing an opposition player to pinch the ball and pass it into an empty net.

While Gollini was seemingly a popular member of the dressing room at Spurs, there was always a question mark about his ability as a goalkeeper. On the evidence of this blunder, it is clear why neither Nuno nor Conte trusted the Italian to play much last season.
