Video: Player who left Spurs last month scores on debut for new club

Gedson Fernandes did not get too many opportunities during the year he spent on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder, who initially joined Spurs on an 18-month loan deal in January of last year, saw his loan deal cut short last month as he returned to his parent club Benfica, who loaned him out to Galatasaray until the end of the season.

The Portugal Under-21 international will be hoping that his loan spell in Turkey proves to be much more fruitful than his time in North London.

The midfielder has certainly made a bright start to his time at Galatasaray, after he scored on his debut in a 3-2 loss to Alanyaspor.

Fernandes started on the bench and replaced Younes Belhanda in the 66th minute, with the visitors 3-0 up at the time and he scored a late consolation in injury time.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fernandes did not get a fair crack of the whip at Spurs, mostly because of circumstances out of his control as the pandemic hit at the wrong time last season and the club had issues fulfilling their foreign-trained criteria for their Europa League squad this campaign. I would not be surprised if Fernandes shines at Galatasaray if he is given a run of games to build his confidence.
