Video: Pundit names four players Pochettino needs to get rid in January

Tottenham’s poor start to the season has led to major questions being raised about the club’s recruitment policy in recent years.

ESPN FC’s Craig Burley has claimed that the club needs a major clear out in the upcoming windows as a first step to rebuilding their squad.

He was asked which players Tottenham should hold on to and who they should sell and the former Chelsea midfielder picked four first-team stars that the club should sell in January.

He urged Mauricio Pochettino to part ways with Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen, Erik Lamela and Eric Dier. Surprisingly, he felt the club would be better off keeping Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld who are both into the final year of their contracts at Spurs.

There really is no point holding on to Eriksen beyond January as he seemingly isn’t too keen on signing a new contract. However, I see no reason to get rid of either Erik Lamela or Eric Dier as I believe both players can be valuable squad options when fit. Apart from that, Burley’s assessment is pretty spot on.
