Video: Redknapp dubs Spurs ‘the laughing stock of football’ as they near Conte appointment

Jamie Redknapp has blasted the decisions that Tottenham Hotspur have made at the board level, questioning why the club did not appoint Antonio Conte during the summer.

Tottenham announced this morning that they had parted ways with Nuno Espirito Santo and his coaching staff, just four months on from appointing him.

Conte is now the favourite to replace the Portuguese coach, with Italian now reportedly having arrived in London to strike a final agreement with Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy.

Redknapp insisted Spurs now need to fully back Conte, adding that the North London club have been a laughing stock on the field recently.

Here’s what the former Spurs midfielder told Sky Sports amidst reports of Conte’s impending appointment:

While Redknapp never seems to have anything good to say about Spurs these days, one cannot argue with what he is saying here. As a club, we have been reeling on the field since Pochettino’s sacking due to a lack of a coherent style of play.

While Conte might not fit with the Spurs DNA in terms of attacking football, the one thing the Italian cannot be accused of is not having a coherent style of play.

He will make sure the team is well drilled and that every player understands their roles completely both on and off the ball.
