Video: Redknapp responds to rumours he dropped Bentley for ice-bucket incident

Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has said that David Bentley’s decision to empty an ice bucket on him after Tottenham sealed a top-four finish in 2009-10 season, was not the reason the midfielder was not picked again for Spurs.

The Lilywhites beat Manchester City 2-1 late in the season to seal Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.

Whilst the former Spurs boss was giving his post-match interview to Sky Sports, a group of Tottenham players, including the likes of Jermaine Jenas, Wilson Palacios, Sebastian Bassong, and Bentley decided to surprise him by drenching him in cold water from a big cooler.

David Bentley himself has previously claimed that he was dropped by Redknapp for the incident (Daily Mail).

In fairness to Harry, Bentley wasn’t good enough to get into the team for the subsequent season especially when we had the likes of Bale and Lennon in peak form with Niko Kranjcar and Steven Pienaar waiting on the wings. It’s a shame Bentley’s Spurs career never really took off as he clearly had the talent to succeed at the top level.
