Video: Rodon speaks in glowing terms about Tottenham despite lack of game time

In his first interview with Rennes’ official club channel, Joe Rodon has admitted that he learned a lot from the two years he spent at Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodon was widely seen as one of the best prospects in the Championship when Tottenham snapped him up from Swansea back in 2020.

However, the centre-back struggled to get a run of starts under his belt under the various managers he had in North London, and his departure this summer did not come as a surprise.

The 24-year-old has joined Rennes on an initial loan deal, with reports indicating that the Ligue 1 club have the option to buy him permanently for around £16.7m (Football.London).

In his first interview at the French club, Rodon admitted that he learned a lot from being around and playing with the top players at Spurs even though he did not get as much game time as he would have liked.

He said: “Tottenham is a very big club and they have top players and playing with them and being with them every day is only going to help you.

“I’m obviously very grateful for the time I’ve had there. Obviously, every player wants to play and sometimes, it does not go like that.”

The Wales international also spoke about the impression Rennes fans made on him when he played at Roazhon Park for Spurs in the Europa Conference League last season.

This is a very smart move for Rodon. He could have easily decided to stay in his comfort zone and join a newly promoted club like Nottingham Forest.

However, this move puts him in the sights of scouts from across Europe, and potentially paves the way for a move to a big club a couple of years down the line.
