Video: Rooney thinks Kane wants to beat Ryan Giggs’ record due to body language

Wayne Rooney believes that Harry Kane is not only after Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record but the Tottenham man will also want to finish with the most assists in the competition’s history.

Kane is now just 82 goals away from Shearer’s all-time record of 260 (Premierleague.com) and one would expect the Spurs man to break the record, given that he still has plenty of years ahead of him.

However, over the last couple of years, the England captain has added more strings to his bow and has become Tottenham’s creator in chief.

Kane finished last campaign with the most goals and most assists in the division and Rooney believes that the 28-year-old is now as desperate to clock up assists as he is goals.

The former Manchester United man joined Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, with both pundits noting Kane’s reaction when Son Heung-min missed a gilt-edged chance after he picked out the South Korean.

Rooney insisted that the striker’s reaction showed how much he now values picking up assists. Watch his discussion with Carragher below:

Kane has just 40 assists to his name so far and is 122 short of Ryan Giggs’ record of 162 (Premierleague.com). So, unfortunately, that is not a record that I see the 28-year-old breaking.

However, Kane could end up with the second-most assists in Premier League history, overtaking Cesc Fabregas’s tally of 111. I believe that is possible as I expect the Tottenham man to play until his late thirties since he is not reliant on his pace or athleticism.
