Video shows Antonio Conte’s reaction as Spurs won late against Marseille

Antonio Conte had to watch from the stands as his Tottenham Hotspur side played out their crucial Champions League tie with Marseille, and a video has emerged of the Italian celebrating the incredible win in France.

Spurs went into the game needing a point to secure qualification from Group D, but faced a difficult task away at Marseille. That task was made even more difficult when the home side took the lead in stoppage time in the first half through a Chancel Mbemba header.

The Lilywhites got back in it after a Clement Lenglet header pulled them level on 54 minutes. While a draw would be enough to see Spurs through, results elsewhere in the group meant they would finish second behind Frankfurt, who beat Sporting 2-1.

With time running out Spurs found themselves on the counter-attack and Harry Kane played the ball through to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who coolly smashed home the winner with seconds left on the clock. The dramatic win sees the North London side through to the knockout stages as group winners.

Conte had to watch it all from the stands after being sent off in the dying embers of the game against Sporting Lisbon last week, leaving Cristian Stellini in charge in the Spurs dugout.

A video shared by RMC Sport shows Conte up in the stands of the Stade Velodrome with his usual passionate celebrations as Spurs took all three points on the night.

Conte had been subdued throughout, even when Lenglet headed home the equaliser. There was no containing his joy at the full-time whistle though, and the manager can now look forward to leading his team into the knockout stages of this year’s Champions League.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are all Antonio Conte in this moment. What a result, and what a way to snatch it too. Getting through the group was obviously paramount, but winning the group is such a nice bonus and means the next stage of the Champions League should be a little more favourable. Now I think we all need to lie down and recover from that game.
