Video: South American football expert gives his view on Lo Celso to Tottenham

South American football expert Tim Vickery believes that Giovani Lo Celso would make for a suitable replacement for Christian Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur.

Eriksen recently came out and told the Danish media that he was ready for a new challenge and a step up away from Spurs next season (Ekstra Bladet).

Real Betis midfielder Lo Celso has been heavily linked with a move to North London with the BBC previously reporting that Spurs had made a £53million bid for his services.

Vickery believes that while Lo Celso will not offer the same threat from set pieces as the Dane (Eriksen’s corners are questionable in the eyes of many Spurs fans), the Argentina international will be a more dynamic player.

He told Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast: “He’s a very, very talented left-footed playmaker, you can certainly see the reason behind the Tottenham connection, with Christian Eriksen perhaps looking to move on,”

“Lo Celso would bring some of the things that Christian Eriksen brings, with perhaps a little bit more dynamism, maybe not as deadly as the Dane from set-pieces, but more dynamism over the field .He had a terrific season for Real Betis.”

He added: “There’s a nice link as well with Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino, because they come from the same region.

“They’ll have to pay for him, Betis paid out to acquire him in order to make a big profit on him, so there’ll be some long, hot summer negotiations going on with that one, but he would be a good fit for Tottenham.”
