Watch Spurs academy graduate Marcus Edwards score his first goal back in England

Tottenham academy graduate Marcus Edwards, who has been heavily linked with a return to Spurs over the years, has found the back of the net for the first time since sealing a return to English football in January.

It came as a surprise to many when Edwards left Sporting Lisbon to join Burnley in January. Just a few months ago Edwards was being linked with a move to Spurs and was rumoured to be on Man Utd’s radar.

The 26-year-old joined the Clarets on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for £10m, which will become active in the summer if the club win promotion to the Premier League.

Tottenham may stand to benefit financially if the winger does seal a permanent switch to Turf Moore, as the Lilywhites have a 35 per cent sell-on clause on the player.

Marcus Edwards nets his first goal for Burnley

It has not taken long for the former Spurs man to make a decisive impact at Burnley, with the winger sending the club on their way to a 4-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday at home on Saturday.

Edwards opened the scoring for his side with a sublime strike, showing impressive quick feet in the box to get around a challenge before opening up his body and producing a fine finish.

Will Tottenham come to regret not signing Edwards?

One would have thought that Tottenham could have signed Edwards if they wanted to, especially since they have a sell-on clause, which means that they could have got him for a discount.

Spurs need homegrown numbers at the moment and are lacking in wingers who are good at taking on and beating players.

The club might come to regret passing up on Edwards if helps Burnley with promotion and if he starts terrorising Premier League defences next season.
