Both Tottenham players were handed a start by Lionel Scaloni at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with the game being dominated by the South American side from start to finish.

Romero gave them the lead on 16 minutes, rising highest to meet Angel Di Maria’s corner to power home a header.

The Albiceleste then doubled their lead on 43 minutes, with Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez tapping home from close ranger after Lo Celso played a ball across the face of goal.

The Spurs midfielder then got on the scoresheet himself at the start of the second half as Lautaro Martinez played a lovely first-time through ball to put him through on goal, with the 27-year-old producing a lovely finish across the goalkeeper with the outside of his left foot.

Romero and Lo Celso will now travel to Los Angeles, with Argentina set to take on Costa Rica next Tuesday at the United Airlines Field.

Lo Celso would have felt great to get some competitive minutes in his legs, having hardly featured for Tottenham over the last couple of months. However, it is difficult to see the 27-year-old making any starts for Spurs this season unless there is an injury to Maddison.
