Tottenham Hotspur and VAR crossed paths plenty in last season’s Champions League competition, and in dramatic fashion.
In the first ever Champions League match at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, a penalty was awarded to Man City early on after VAR replays adjudged Danny Rose to have blocked the ball with his hand in the area.
This came despite that fact that no Man City players appealed for such a decision, with the Blues actually ready to take the resulting corner. Luckily, Hugo Lloris saved the spot kick.
VAR actually backed Spurs up in the away leg, after reviews were used to confirm Fernando Llorente’s late goal, a finish that would see them qualify over Man City.
Not only this, but VAR came to the rescue once again at the death, ruling out Sterling’s goal for offside on Aguero.
Tottenham fan, Dave, called up talkSPORT this week to rant about the new technology.
"Instead of arguing about football things, we're going to be arguing about blinking VAR!"
"It's complete nonsense!"
