Video: Spurs fan pays Paul Merson to admit he was wrong over Harry Kane

Paul Merson has apologised for his comment about Harry Kane and admitted that he got his prediction about the striker struggling to score goals under Jose Mourinho “horribly wrong”.

Merson insisted last season that he worried for the Tottenham striker when Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino and claimed that the striker would be far from happy with the style of football the Portuguese coach was employing.

The pundit told Sky Sports: “When Jose took the job I worried for Harry Kane. He played under Pochettino and Tottenham sort of had a go wherever they went. There were goals, there were crosses, there were shots.

“[But now] he’s going to be playing up front on his own and it is going to be hard work. In the end, he’s trying to hit 60-yard passes just to be involved in the game. That’s not Harry Kane.

“He’s not fit. He’s definitely not fit. They played with virtually 10 men.

“I think he’ll have a serious think at the end of the season, I really do. I don’t see him getting 25-30 goals next season with the way Jose will want to play.

“And Jose won’t want to play like he did when he first got in there and it was 4-2 and 5-3, no way. He’ll like those games like Friday night, 1-1.”

Mourinho hit back at Merson for his comment and pointed out that many of the strikers who he has managed in his career have had no problems finding the back of the net with regularity (Football.London).

Kane has started this season on fire, with a whopping 13 goals and 10 assists so far this campaign (transfermarkt.com) and Merson has been called out on social media for his predictions.

A Tottenham supporter has now decided to pay £62 on video-sharing website Cameo to get the former Arsenal midfielder to admit that he was wrong about Kane (according to The Daily Mail).

Merson said in the video: “You’re right, I am wrong there mate.

“Harry Kane will score goals wherever he goes, he’s a top centre-forward and I have to admit I got that one horribly wrong.”
