It was almost the perfect night for Spurs at their new stadium yesterday as they overcame Manchester City 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, in what was the first European game held at the stadium.
The 62,000 odd Spurs fans created a fabulous atmosphere throughout the ninety minutes, and the Spurs players put in a professional performance on the pitch.
They defended resolutely and prevented Pep Guardiola’s side from getting an away goal, and scored a goal of their own in the second half courtesy of Son Heung-Min.
The only negative to come out of the night for the home side was losing Harry Kane to yet another ankle injury.
The Spurs striker went in for a challenge against Fabian Delph but the City man made contact with Kane’s ankle in the follow through which caused the England Captain’s ankle to twist awkwardly.
The 25-year-old only recently recovered from a lengthy lay-off after injuring the same ankle, and thus some Spurs fans feared the worst.
Sky Sports have now released a video of Kane leaving the stadium on crutches, and the prospects of an early return certainly look unlikely based on the video.
