Tottenham Hotspur’s Ben Davies has revealed he was ‘pretty convinced’ at the time that Hugo Lloris has touched the ball during a contentious penalty decision.
The referee pointed to the spot when Lloris came charging out to tackle Richarlison with an outstretched arm, but the VAR instructed him to take a look at the monitor.
Upon watching a few replays, the referee decided that Lloris got a touch before Richarlison, changing the direction of the ball, and therefore overruled his original decision.
Davies had this to say on the situation and his thoughts in real-time:
🗣"I didn't think it was a penalty when the incident happened."

Spurs Web Opinion:
A perfect use of VAR. Near impossible to tell in real-time, then the replays showed a clear touch from Lloris. I’m not sure why this is even a debate.
