Tottenham’s match-winner against Arsenal, Toby Alderweireld has revealed his delight at the club’s ‘massive’ North London Derby victory on Sunday.
The centre-back put in yet another near-flawless display at the back, just as he did in Spurs’ previous two matches against Everton and Bournemouth.
After being partnered at centre-back with Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen respectively in the last two games, the Belgian international started alongside Davinson Sanchez on Sunday.
The 30-year-old not only looked defensively assured but met Son Heung-min’s cross with a thumping header in the 81st minute that left Emiliano Martinez with no chance.
Here’s what Alderweireld told Sky Sports after the win against the Gunners:
Spurs Web Opinion
I backed Jose’s decision to leave Alderweireld on the bench and start with the pairing of Sanchez and Dier for our first three matches as I though the Belgian had been poor since putting pen to paper on a new contract last December. However, he has looked like his old-self since being reinstated back into the team against Everton. He has hardly put a foot wrong in the last three matches and in my opinion, he has more than done enough to have made himself first-choice again.
