Video: Spurs star insists they can beat any team ahead of Liverpool test

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has revealed his delight at the team’s performance following the 5-0 win against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday evening.

The defender started alongside Davinson Sanchez in the heart of the Spurs defence with Mauricio Pochettino deciding to leave Toby Alderweireld out of his match day squad.

Vertonghen insisted that the players wanted to prove that they were still the same team on the back of the criticism they’ve received for their recent poor displays.

Ahead of the match against Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield, Vertonghen revealed that he has the belief that Spurs can beat any side.

It will be the first time Spurs have squared off against Liverpool since the Champions League final.

While the quality of the opposition wasn’t great on Tuesday, Spurs could only beat what is in front of them and the performance was certainly exemplary. The attitude players displayed right from kick-off suggested that they are determined to turn around the poor run of form.

Not many will expect Spurs to win at Anfield, but the players need to keep playing the high press they displayed against Red Star if they are to stand any chance of an upset.
