Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur for quite some time.
The north London club made their last ditch efforts last summer to land the talented midfielder, but failed.
According to talkSPORT, Grealish came close to a move to north London, but the transfer broke down following a takeover at Aston Villa.
Spurs hoped for a cheap transfer due to financial difficulties at the Midlands club, hence they waited until the final hours of the transfer window to make an offer.
However, a takeover from an American financer and Egyptian billionaire prevented Grealish from leaving Birmingham, making Tottenham the first club in Premier League history that failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer window.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Steve Bruce confirmed that the midfielder ‘would have been a Tottenham player’ had the club not waited for so long to make an offer.
“We were in such a bad position financially that if Tottenham had have done their work early, then I’m sure he [Grealish] would have been a Tottenham player,” Bruce said.
Aston Villa fans are definitely not complaining that they’ve kept their top-class midfielder. Grealish once again has shown his impressive skills with his goal against Rotherham, which led to Villa’s victory 2-1.
