Tottenham Hotspur new signing Steven Bergwijn has recorded a video on the club’s official Twitter channel to explain how his surname is actually pronounced.
Spurs confirmed earlier this morning that they had secured the services of the PSV Eindhoven winger on a deal until the summer of 2025.
Bergwijn departed Holland after making 149 appearances in total and scored 31 goals for the Dutch giants.
The 23-year-old revealed that the English pronunciation of Bergwijn is ‘Berg-wine’ which at least educates supporters of how to sing his name from all four corners of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He has chosen to wear the number 23 shirt which was recently vacated after Christian Eriksen completed his move to Inter Milan.
Bergwijn follows Gedson Fernandes and Giovani Lo Celso in the door as permanent signings during the current month.
